Back on Display

Updated: Oct 18, 2022

Back in 2020 I started a project to capture intimate portraits of key figures around the Southend-on-Sea music scene. Unfortunately Covid came along and things got put on the back burner. In the spring of 2021 I was talking to a colleague about it and she offered me an exhibition space at Create98 for July. Arghhhh!!! This meant that the wheels needed to get turning, and fast, in order to photograph as many people as I could before the pictures needed to go on display. I managed 10.

I'd never had a proper exhibition before so this was very exciting and it was great to see my images up on display for the month.

A very cheesy photo of me taken by Poppy at Create98 - July 2021

At the end of July I had sold 3 of the images after the exhibition, to the people in the photos, which was lovely. I packed away the remaining 7 prints and put them in the attic.

October 2021 - I was contacted by another venue asking whether I would like to put my photos up there. Yes of course I would. There was, however, a snag, they needed to wait for some other pieces to be removed, and it wasn't up to them do it. I had regular assurances that this was still their intention but until now those pictures had still been up.

September 2022 - The other pictures are finally gone! A hanging system needs to be installed, but as soon as that is done it's all systems go. I have the green light to get the photos back out of the attic and dust them down ready for hanging next week. Unfortunately there is no time to get the 3 sold images reprinted and framed although I have done a bit of begging to temporarily borrow one of them back.

The installation in progress - 14/09/22

Roll on to today, the 7 remaining photos, and the one on loan, are back up for the launch event. They look amazing and fit the space really well.

They will be on display for about a month so pop into Twenty One at 21 Pier Approach (right by the pier), Western Esplanade, Southend-on-Sea, Essex and see them in all their glory; plus they also do lovely pizzas. I now have plans to put together a full exhibition of live music photos, I hope these will go on display in the venue's main exhibition space but the fine details are yet to be decided. I will, of course, keep you posted as soon as there is any news.

18/10/22 - The photos have been taken down and are packed back in their boxes ready to go into the attic :(
